What is Freemasonry?

Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio

The Ohio Freemasons: Building Better Men

Ohio Freemasonry is a thriving brotherhood of over 60,000 men in more than 400 lodges across the state. As one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in the world, we are bound by the timeless values of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. In every corner of the Buckeye State, our members are dedicated to the simple yet profound goal of "making good men better."

For centuries, the Masonic Lodge has served as a launchpad for personal growth. It is a place where men from all walks of life—regardless of their profession, background, or social standing—meet as equals to support one another and strengthen their character.

Our Impact in Ohio

We believe that a man’s true worth is measured by his service to others. Ohio Freemasons contribute millions of dollars and thousands of volunteer hours annually to causes that matter:

  • The Ohio Masonic Communities: We provide premier senior living and resource centers in Springfield, Waterville, and Medina, helping our seniors age with dignity and purpose.
  • Educational Support: Through the Grand Lodge of Ohio Scholarship programs and the "Masonic Model Student Assistance Program," we invest in the future of Ohio’s youth.
  • Support for Heroes: Our Veterans and First Responders Fund provides essential equipment and support to those who serve and protect our communities.
  • A Network of Relief: From local food drives to the Masonic Relief Fund for distressed members and their families, we are a quiet force for good in our neighborhoods.

A Tradition of Excellence

To be a Mason is to be a man of honor and integrity. We strive to live by the cardinal virtues of temperance, fortitude, prudence, and justice, ensuring that our actions in the world reflect the light we find within the Lodge.

"Freemasonry is a journey toward becoming a better father, husband, friend, and citizen—a journey we take together."

The Order of the Eastern Star: Ohio Chapter

The Ohio Order of the Eastern Star (OES) is a vibrant community where tradition meets purpose. As the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both women and men may belong, we are dedicated to charity, truth, and loving-kindness.

In the Buckeye State, our chapters serve as a "home away from home," fostering deep-rooted friendships while making a tangible impact on our local communities. While our ceremonies are inspired by the timeless values found in the Holy Scriptures, we welcome members from all religious backgrounds who share a belief in a Supreme Being and a desire to better themselves and the world around them.

What We Stand For

  • Charitable Hearts: From supporting cancer research and service dog programs to providing scholarships for Ohio’s youth, our members are constantly working to give back.
  • Lasting Fellowship: We offer a unique social bond that transcends generations, providing a supportive network for members at every stage of life.
  • Personal Growth: Through leadership roles and community service, our members develop confidence and skills that extend far beyond our chapter rooms.

"Dedicated to the betterment of ourselves and our communities through the five principles of the Star."
